A Great Kit to build Memories and a Dulcimer

A nice kit with good instructions. I am just starting the build with my grandson. The kit came on time (a day or two from order date). Our fist step was to verify the contents which were exactly as stated. My grandson was intrigued by the two type of wood Cherry with sound board of Western Redwood Cedar. We talked about finishing with tung oil or lacquer. He choose the oil. Next step is to get him his first tool box and the needed items identified in the instructions. Instructions Make it easy to do the build and share a passion with my grandson.

Folkcraft® Black Walnut Hourglass Dulcimer Kit

Excellent kit, the wood was beautiful and well beyond what I was expecting for a kit at this price point.

Cherry hourglass dulcimer

I received my kit in just a few day from when I ordered it. It was well packaged and everything was inorder. There is really only one thing I would say needs improvement is the instructions are slightly confusing but when I called to get clarification on something, they were very helpful and polite. I would recommend their kits to anyone.

Great Gift

I bought the mountain dulcimer kit as a gift for my husband. The quality is very good and directions thorough although complicated. He’s having a great time building it!

Instructions could use some work but the instrument is beautiful

Some of the diagrams don't match the descriptions or instructions. Some of the instructions are less than complete or comprehendible. For example, when attaching the sound board, sometimes referred to as the top pieces, matching the grain required cutting one half inch off of one board. I'm still not sure if this was necessary as it didn't visually matter once the boards were gapped and attached to the finger board. The finger board extends one quarter inch beyond the sound board, which may or may not be intentional. I still have questions. It seems that Folkcraft has received both the kit and the instructions from an outside provider and hasn't really reviewed them. Still, most of it eventually made enough sense to produce a very nice looking instrument. It isn't yet finished so I don't know the sound quality but I'm guessing it will be very nice. A very sharp utility knife is needed to cut the sound board and back board. Now that I've built one I'd do it again.
