Zanetti's great collection of early American hymns

This is a great compilation of early hymns, complete with a short history of each hymn tradition and information on each hymn in the collection. I would recommend it for any intermediate player with an interest in early American sacred music.

Glories Immortal by Nina Zanetti

Glories Immortal by Nina Zanetti Is full of beautiful arrangements of historical hymns. Some familiar but many unfamiliar for most people—because the hymns are old and sometimes forgotten. The introductory writing provides a short course in 18th and 19th century American hymnody. This volume digs into the rich and deep world of traditions beyond the revival hymns and commercial Christian music that litter so many hymn collections for dulcimer. This book is a cut above most other hymn collections.

Excellent Selections!

I adore this volume! If you love Early American hymnody, this is a stellar selection. I love the arrangements of Moravian hymns and Shape Note selections, especially, and the gorgeous round "When Jesus Wept" by Billings. I also appreciate Nina Zanetti's style, which allows the player to fingerpick many arrangements if they wish. Arrangements run the range from gentle and slow to energetic and triumphant. I'm impressed with the research done to put this volume together, and the wonderful tunes that were chosen from our early traditions.
