This week we're shining our spotlight on Eastern red cedar. Do you know how many different items can be made out of Eastern red cedar, besides Folkcraft dulcimers? 

Western red cedar trees

Eastern red cedar also works well for trim in boats and canoes. It's great for cedar chests and closet linings, jewelry boxes, and bookcases, too, just to list a few.

Eastern red cedar (left photo) gives you the warmth, volume, excellent sustain, and good clarity of Western red cedar. But it's not as soft as Western red cedar (right photo), which dents and scratches easily. Plus, I really love the look of Eastern red cedar, with all the knots and color variations.
