Basswood
 | | Basswood is a very light wood that is primarily prized by wood carvers. It has almost no grain and rarely if ever splinters. Because of its light weight and low strength, it is not suitable for heads, bodies or fingerboards. Basswood makes a great soundboard that tends to help let through a little more of the lower frequencies (similar in sound to other light woods such as spruce or cedar) while still giving you the hardwood look. Basswood is very easy to cut and sand, but does tend to "fuzz" when sanding, so you may need to go to a finer grit than normal to get a great finish. |
