Now, you can customize your fingerboard. Just choose from any of the options below to add your own special touch to your dulcimer. Fingerboard Width A wider fingerboard gives the advantage of a little more space between the strings, making it easier to finger chords. Plus, a wider finger is a little stiffer. If you will be making a six string or baritone dulcimer the wider fingerboard is recommended.   1 3/8"   No additional charge     1 1/2"   No additional charge   Fingerboard Material Choose the wood that best matches the mountain dulcimer that you are creating. If you will be adding a fingerboard veneer (which is the next option), we suggest sugar maple. Sugar maple provides a high contrast in color with most of the veneers available. We suggest using a highly contrasting color of veneer on the fingerboard.
