Folkcraft Mountain Dulcimer, Double Neck
Folkcraft Double Neck Dulcimer, Custom Series, Black Walnut Body, Butternut Soundboard, Dolphin Tone Holes, Fishman Prefix Pro, Galax Back

This Folkcraft double neck dulcimer was custom built for Bing Futch, endorsing artist (and avid fan) of Folkcraft Instruments. It was presented to Bing at the 2009 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. Like a proud parent, Bing named his dulcimer "Annie."

Needless to say, Annie is an astonishing instrument, both visually and sonically. With a black walnut body, butternut soundboard and double Galax back, her acoustic tone is sweet and clear with a surprising punch and lots of volume. Her plugged-in tone is pure and clean with lots of bass response, courtesy of the installed Fishman pickups and Prefix Pro E.Q. system.

Bing has traveled and performed with Annie all across the country. From Anaheim, CA (Picture 1) to Key West, FL (Picture 2) and all regions in between, they have entertained and delighted many a music fan.

Unfortunately, our story of Bing and Annie does take a sad turn. However, it does have a happy ending...

Following a weekend in Illinois at the Gebhard Woods Dulcimer Festival, Bing is scheduled for a performance at Folkcraft Instruments headquarters in Woodburn, IN. En route from Detroit, MI to Fort Wayne, IN, Annie comes in contact with careless airline baggage handlers. It's not until hours later when Bing checks into his hotel room that he discovers what he will later entitle "A Musician's Nightmare."

"Right away, I knew the damage could've been much worse. That didn't stop the anger from welling up inside of me as the splintered and cracked wood registered within my brain. One side of the Galax back had been crushed, as if by a heavy impact. A crack ran along the side."

Luckily, Annie was not far from her birthplace in Woodburn. Only a few hours prior to the performance, she undergoes emergency surgery. Bing performs to a sold out crowd in the Folkcraft storefront. With a new back, reconstructed sides and a half lacquered body, Annie doesn't miss a beat.

After a series of cosmetic refurbishments (and nearly three weeks of separation), Annie and Bing are reunited. Did Annie survive? The "before" and "after" pictures should speak for themselves (Pictures 3 and 4). Their reunion is celebrated with a Fourth of July performance in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Bing would later post on one of his many online mediums: "Kudos to Folkcraft for taking such great care of their artists!"

You're welcome, sir.

When people think of heirloom-quality instruments, they think of Folkcraft. Here's why: Our instruments are handmade in the United States of America, not in a cheap overseas factory. Our instruments are crafted one at a time, not on an assembly line. Our instruments are made of solid woods, not out of plywood.

Folkcraft instruments are made with pride and tradition, using the same methods as our founders used in 1968. Folkcraft Instruments is a family business, with two generations of luthiers putting their skill and experience into every instrument they create.
