I received my new Custom Folkcraft dulcimer about three weeks ago, and it is simply amazing! I have a hand injury that has taken 3+ years to improve so I can play again. I tasked Richard with building me a full sized California body with a 24 VSL scale. Richard worked with my on wood selections and options and honestly, this instrument is stunning! I had been playing a very short scale, small body dulcimer and wanted a full, warm sound. This 24 VSL w Galax back was the perfect solution. Richard and his team are true artisans in their craft. Beautifully built, solid (I take my dulcimer on the road when camping) and has a beautiful, warm and balanced sound. I can’t put it down, and my hand does not tire when playing! Many thanks to Richard and the entire Folkcraft team. I am now able to play a big sounding dulcimer again. This is a true blessing ! LD
I was fortunate to actually visit with Richard when I called and ordered a custom 25" VSL Walnut sides and back, Butternut top, Purple Heart Fingerboard andLR Baggs pickup. I am very happy with the playability and sound from this beautiful piece of art. I didn't realize it would come with the racing stripes as I see Richard display is some youtube videos. The finish is very nice. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with a Mountain Dulcimer like this one.
Richard, a very heartfelt thank you for building my custom Folkcraft dulcimer. I set out to solve an issue from a damaged hand that has not allowed me to play much. After discussing with you and Haley, the suggestion that I go with a 24 VSL was spot on as a solution. I just received this beauty and she is as gorgeous to look at as to play! Just mind-blowing!! The build quality is like nothing I have seen (and I have owned some very nice dulcimers). The spectacular "interesting" black walnut is breathtaking, and the maple fretboard with zebrawood overlay and spacers on the galax back really was beyond what I envisioned of this instrument. Honestly, the wood selections are perfect in my opinion. The hard case upgrade was worth every penny too. I thank you and the entire Folkcraft team for all of the hard work, knowledge and incredible craftsmanship. I am honored to be part of the Folkcraft family.
