Getting Medieval on My Dulcimer

Ever since I received "Heart's Ease" by Nina Zanetti, I've been playing some of the 35 tunes from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods on a near daily basis. I especially enjoy the arrangements of songs by John "The English Dancing Master" Playford. Other favorites include Johann Sebastian Bach's "When Bagpipers Play," "Greensleeves" and a Sarum plainsong from possibly the 9th Century, but all are worth playing and ones I haven't played before except two. No need to have a 1+ fret for these arrangements but a few require tuning in DGD or DAC.

Great arrangements, but DAD

I should have looked more closely. I was wanting to play these on a period instrument, an ancestor of the mountain dulcimer called a scheitholt. These were tuned DAA and mostly played noter-style, from what I've been able to tell.
So, while this book is great, it is DAD and uses 6 1/2 fret, which wasn't available on period instruments. So...I'll keep looking.

Nina Zanetti- Hearts Ease

Another wonderful book of Nina’s! Took a class on one of the tunes in this book at NGFDA so had to have the book. She is a beautiful player and I aspire to become even a small measure of her talent. Some beautiful tunes in this book!

Loved it

Great introduction on some strumming, picking instructions that when I saw the tabs left me a bit confused. The brief history segment was nice about the role of dulcimer (or similar instrument) role in Renaissance and Baroque music eras. The notation is excellent, and while the songs are a bit outside of my skill level at the moment, when the pieces do start coming together they sound amazing.

Would recommend for anyone interested in period music for the Dulcimer.

Heart's Ease

This the second book I've acquired of Nina Zanetti's arrangements. Totally excellent in all respects!
