I am so sorry it took this long to get back to you, but I have been busy playing!!
My new Folkcraft (standard) has Honduras Mahogany back and sides, Western Red Cedar soundboard and Purple Heart fret board with a Galax bottom too!
When I took it out of the case, I couldn’t believe it! It is magnificent and beautiful! The sound is fantastic! This is my 3rd Folkcraft, I have a bass dulcimer and of course my very first dulcimer (which is 100% all walnut). Obviously I am a great (lifelong) fan. Thank you so much, Flo
This is my 4th dulcimer, so I knew what I wanted when I ordered. I knew Folkcraft would deliver the finest, because I already had one Folkcraft instrument, and I had toured the Folkcraft factory. My selected options included piezo pickup with pre-amp, Galax back (really boosts the unamplified volume and sustain), ebony fingerboard, and 4 gold enclosed gear tuners on a contemporary flat head. Luthier Richard Ash put it altogether with the finest craftsmanship, in an hourglass body of black walnut and sitka spruce top, with 26 inch VSL and the extra frets I wanted. Delivered in a sturdy case embroidered with my name. A pleasure to play, and beautiful to look at.
I just love my new dulcimer. I have been playing it for many hours everyday.
I had a custom chromatic dulcimer made for me with all koa wood and an ebony fret board. I chose the Victorian romance sound holes. Well, let me tell you, it is a piece of art work and if I never ever played it, just sitting and looking at it is worth the price! It is absolutely gorgeous and the wood grain, they couldn't have found a prettier piece to use. And it goes without saying, the sound she makes is beautiful. Now to learn how to play her as well as my others! Thank you!
I received my teardrop dulcimer about 3 weeks ago. It is absolutely beautiful. The front and bottom panels are perfectly matched. The overall finish is exquisite. Before playing it I always enjoy its looks and smoothness. Playing it is a joy - it frets easily and the sound sustain is long. Overall I’m glad that I bought it from folkcraft and I know that it will continue to be treasure.
A final point - the service from folkcraft was excellent..
