Summer NAMM Show, July 2009 (Day 1) (Posted by Richard Ash on 7/24/2009)
Well, we just finished day 1 of the Summer NAMM show. (If you don't know, NAMM is the trade organization for the "music products industry", and the bulk of the attendees are music store owners, and music store employees.)
The summer NAMM show is a 3 day event, running all day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Like many exhibitors, we hire "demonstrators" - people that play really well and can draw a crowd. (and bring attention to our booth, and our instruments!)
Bing Futch demonstrating dulcimers
This year, we went all out, and got the best players we could find. For Friday and Sunday, we have Folkcraft endorsing artist Bing Futch, and on Saturday, our demonstrator is the world-famous Stephen Seifert.
But, you know those dulcimer players - they can't resist the chance to perform for an audience. And believe me when I say that music store owners and employees are always appreciative of great music.
So, earlier today, Steve (Seifert) showed up to say "Hi", and also to pick up his new Folkcraft dulcimer. Click here to see Steve Seifert's new Folkcraft dulcimer.
Bing and Stephen go way back, and it didn't take long for the two of them to start playing duets. You can imagine the crowd these two virtuosos gathered. At one point, the aisles around our booth were filled to capacity with people listening, in awe, to these two musicians. The booths around us were thrilled, I'm sure.
This was a short Folkcraft Community page entry, but you'll get an update for each of the next two days. I'll try to take more pictures tomorrow and Sunday.
When people think of heirloom-quality instruments, they think of Folkcraft. Here's why: Our instruments are handmade in the United States of America, not in a cheap overseas factory. Our instruments are crafted one at a time, not on an assembly line. Our instruments are made of solid woods, not out of plywood.
Folkcraft instruments are made with pride and tradition, using the same methods as our founders used in 1968. Folkcraft Instruments is a family business, with two generations of luthiers putting their skill and experience into every instrument they create.
