FolkRoots Founder On YouTube (Posted by Nicholas Young on 11/18/2009)
This morning a YouTube link came to my attention. And while I normally don't promote the usage of YouTube during work hours (yes, the boss is reading this), I clicked the link and began my 3 minute 54 second viewing of mountain dulcimer history.
The video below is an interview with Michael Rugg and his mountain dulcimer.
For those not up on their folk history, Michael Rugg is the co-founder of FolkRoots, the line of "California style" dulcimers now made by Folkcraft Instruments. This video features Mr. Rugg on his FolkRoots mountain dulcimer. Informative and entertaining (and may I add "stylish"), this blast from the past is a broadcast rarity, and I'm glad someone took the time to post it.
It's great to see the history and advances that have unfolded in folk music, especially with the mountain dulcimer. Michael Rugg is certainly an important part of the continuing story.More Articles
When people think of heirloom-quality instruments, they think of Folkcraft. Here's why: Our instruments are handmade in the United States of America, not in a cheap overseas factory. Our instruments are crafted one at a time, not on an assembly line. Our instruments are made of solid woods, not out of plywood.
Folkcraft instruments are made with pride and tradition, using the same methods as our founders used in 1968. Folkcraft Instruments is a family business, with two generations of luthiers putting their skill and experience into every instrument they create.
