At 3" by 8", these 1/8" thick blanks are sized to fit our two-piece peg head blanks. Use a lightly colored wood like maple sandwiched between a darker wood (almost any of the other hardwoods) or use a very dark wood like ebony against any of the lighter woods.
About Flamed Birch: Flamed birch is birch with "curl." It tends to have very random grain patterns which give it a very decorative look. Flamed birch is hard enough to make almost any dulcimer part from, but its wild grain patterns make it hard to recommend for fingerboards. With its light color, flamed birch makes a great accent wood on dark instruments such as walnut or mahogany.
