 Western Red Cedar Dulcimer Back/Soundboard

This western red cedar blank set includes 2 pieces of book matched cedar each measuring 4" x 32" (may vary by up to 1/8") for a total of 8" x 32" with a thickness of 1/8" (finished to 120 grit).

For the "Joined, Glued And Sanded" options, we have joined the edges of the two pieces, glued them together and sanded the resulting piece on both sides giving you a single book matched piece with a seam down the middle.

We don't recommend using cedar for the back of the dulcimer, but it will work and it does make a nice color contrast to many of the other woods.

About Western Red Cedar: An evergreen tree found primarily in British Columbia, Canada, western red cedar is a very soft, lightweight wood. The softness of the wood leaves it vulnerable to accidental damage, especially scratches from picks and fingers. However, the unsurpassed beauty and superior tone quality of a red cedar soundboard make this one of our most popular tone woods.

When people think of heirloom-quality instruments, they think of Folkcraft. Here's why: Our instruments are handmade in the United States of America, not in a cheap overseas factory. Our instruments are crafted one at a time, not on an assembly line. Our instruments are made of solid woods, not out of plywood.

Folkcraft instruments are made with pride and tradition, using the same methods as our founders used in 1968. Folkcraft Instruments is a family business, with two generations of luthiers putting their skill and experience into every instrument they create.
