This African mahogany blank set includes 2 pieces of book matched mahogany each measuring 4" x 32" (may vary by up to 1/8") for a total of 8" x 32" with a thickness of 1/8" (finished to 120 grit).
For the "Joined, Glued And Sanded" options, we have joined the edges of the two pieces, glued them together and sanded the resulting piece on both sides giving you a single book matched piece with a seam down the middle.
Our one-piece African mahogany back/soundboard blanks measure 7 inches by 32 inches, and are 1/8 inch thick.
About African Mahogany: African mahogany is a hard dense wood (very similar to cherry). It has a very straight grain, so it is very easy to work and does not splinter easily. The color is a medium dark reddish brown which does not change dramatically with time or with clear finishes. African mahogany makes a good choice for practically any part of an instrument - it is dense enough and strong enough for heads and bodies, hard enough for fingerboards, and light enough to give a good tone quality.
